I did a thing.
I’ve been hosting my blog over at work for a decade (probably longer). I finally migrated it to WordPress.com and changed the URL from camhughes.com to camh.com.
I actually purchased camh.com quite a while ago. Let me see if I can dig out the info…
Got it: September 20, 2022.
I paid $10K. 😓 But for a four-letter domain that’s my first name and last initial, I think that was a deal. I probably should have put it to use sooner.
The migration was smoother than I could have imagined. I purchased a hosting plan (Premium for $5.50 / month with 3 years of prepayment), and then the WordPress team connected to my old blog and somehow magically moved everything over to the new one- including configuring the domain change along the way.
My blog is about 20 GB, so in addition to the Premium hosting plan, I had to buy more storage (the Premium plan comes with 13 GB). Interestingly, the cheapest storage upgrade that’s publicly advertised is 50 GB for $50/month. However, WordPress set me up with an extra 25 GB for $50/year, which seems much more reasonable. I’m not sure why they did that, but I’m stoked!
So that’s about it! I’m all moved over, my PHP will never be out of date again, and my identity can now remain slightly more of a secret. 🤫
